PREVENTION OF FALLING MATERIAL-SAFE STACKING AND STORAGE:

Good housekeeping start with good design and layout of the workplace,some basic principle for safe staking and storage is given below

1. Storage area should be clearly defined
2. Certain materials and substances should be segregated during storage,alternatively purpose built secure storage e.g gas bottle cages may be required
3. Areas should be kept clean and tidy and should be routinely inspected
4. Separate areas should be used for different items ( for ease of identification )
5. Warning sign should be displayed where necessary e.g flammable material are stored
6. Storage areas should not be used for work activities

Stacking Material : Stacking material is an efficient way to use space when stacking these points must be keep in mind 

1. Each stack should be for one material only not mixed
2. Stack should be vertical not leaning
3. Maximum stack height must be set 
4. Pallets should be used to keep materials off the ground
5. Sufficient space must be allowed between stacks for safe movement
6. Stacks must be protected from being struck by vehicles
